"Celebrations!" Hawaii Quilt Guild Show at Linekona Celebrating HQG's 25th Anniversary April 24 – May 3, 2009 Honolulu Academy of Arts – Academy Art Center 1111 Victoria Street, Honolulu, HI 96814

Our 2009 Quilt Show Committee is hard at work carving out the details for our 2009 show, tentatively scheduled for April 24 – May 3. This show will be especially meaningful to our guild, as it will also celebrate our 25th anniversary. Please keep checking back for future developments!

Our annual quilt show held this past April/May was, once again, a tremendous success! Our featured artist, Doris Tando, had a beautiful array of quilts to show and proved once again what a gifted quilter, teacher, and designer she truly is. And from fabulous fabric postcards to our fabulous “opportunity” quilt, stockings, wall-hangings and quilts, there was something to amaze everyone.

While we plan for next year’s show, please enjoy some of the highlights from our most recent show, “Quilting in Paradise”:

Our Challenge category was “Through a Hawaiian Window.” Winners were Donna Kanealii’s “View at Kualoa” (1st Place); Sharon Nakasone’s “Mango Season” (2nd Place); and Elizabeth Schowalter’s “Mokoli’i Beyond the Mangos” (3rd Place).

There were so many beautiful quilts on display that it was tough for many people to choose their favorites.  But the quilts here won the hearts of the viewers:
1st Place: Riccamae Williams’ “Mother Nature”		2nd Place: Monika Scola’s “Makapu’u Lighthouse”
3rd Place: Hiroko Ono’s “Nami”		4th Place: Yukimi Yoshida’s “Kukui”
5th Place: Elizabeth Schowalter’s “Ahuimanu Stream”
It’s not too early to join in the fun for next year’s quilt show!  Start working on those projects, or even better, volunteer your ideas or your time (or both!) to make 2009’s quilt show another not-to-miss event!
